Buddy Miles, the American rock drummer who died on Tuesday aged 60, was a member of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys from 1969 until Hendrix’s death in 1970.

During his career Miles played on more than 70 albums, and appeared with musicians such as Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Muddy Waters, Ike Turner, Barry White, Prince and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Hopefully he’s jammin’ with Jimmy again ….

I had to get out for a second before the promo machine turns my life into complete lock down . I just decided not to talk on a phone or look at a TV or computer for a few days. I definitely notice a difference my mind is quieter for it . I think I may have to go camping way out in the woods soon . I haven’t done anything like that for more than a decade . Just get away from anything that has that buzz of electricity and quiet the body , soul , and mind …. On another note it seems that another radio station in Boston is playing “Letters Home” due to requests and is Top 5 at the phones which is a big deal because the song was never “pushed” as they say for radio… so we have decided to put a stronger push at radio for that song so call your local stations and start hounding the DJ “) …. I want to thank both WBCN and WAAF in Boston for playing the song and all the listeners who have called in to request it …..

So lately I been going through some really strange emotional swings . It’s been a little frustrating because I actually have so much going on thats positive and couldn’t figure out why I’m so often in a dark mood . Now being an artist that tends to write about darker subjects most of the time I find myself purposely putting my self in dark moods to find the honesty in what ever I’m writing about . It’s the way I get into a certain state of mind , my process if you will , but this has been different . Then the other day ( valentines ) it dawned on me that today Feb. 18th was the day 10 years ago that I suffered a near fatal Upper Ascending Aortic Aneurism do to a congenital birth defect . In other words a muscle in my heart tore and nearly killed me . Once I realized this the journey really began . You see when I recovered from the surgery and got back on my feet I immediately went on tour for the WFSTB record . I honestly never expected to live 10 more years and figured I had better get moving because my time was limited . I went to bed every night at peace with the notion I might not wake the next morning (and still do) . I partied how I wanted ( though I’ve never been into hard drugs like coke or heron ) mostly drinking and smoking some weed , I ate when and where and what I wanted . Then yesterday in Vegas it dawned on me that I have basically just been waiting to die . Now it’s 10 years later and I’m here and healthy as ever except for some extra weight (which I’m working on) and a few premature grey hairs and I’m starting to think maybe I will be around a while . I have this titanium heart valve that sounds like a ticking watch and for too long I have considered it a countdown. I think today I will assign it new meaning. I will from now on consider it a reminder that life is pretty good even when it’s not good . Taking a deep breath into your lungs is a feeling most people take for granted . A feeling I often sit and bask in .I am happy to be alive today. I have been given so much in this life and I’m not speaking of wealth or material. I mean experiences . You can’t take money or property with you after this life but your experiences stay with you and leave a mark on those you’ve gone through them with . So go outside into the cold air and take a deep breath into your lungs and really enjoy it for what it is . A gift .
