This really is an excellent song. Just finished going through the video now. It’s funny, the timing. Couple nights ago at about 2:00 AM on C-Span there was this SSgt talking about his experiences in Fallujah. And you could see his pain right out there for everyone to see. He wrote a book, it’s why he was out there talking. http://www.davidbellavia.com/ is the website. And watching him, and knowing why he was fighting, why they always fight - for your friend, your buddy, and knowing how war just messes everything up for both sides.. this song just covers it. Just good stuff, and thank you!

    To Whom It May Concern:

Recently I have had the fortunate experience to engage young Muslims who have challenged my perception of this historic political campaign. These are young registered voters who have asked me to help them orchestrate a campaign of their own to NOT support any of the candidates while still organizing the Muslim vote.

They recognize, as I do, that there are nearly 3,000,000 registered Muslim voters in the United States with key pockets of Muslims in what are being called “battleground states” such as Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, New York and New Jersey. Their anger is only matched by their determination and their articulation of the position that if none of the candidates for the presidency is willing ‘to address issues that concern Muslims they are not worthy of the support of Muslims.

They ask the question, “Who supports US in this Election?” Unfortunately, I have reviewed the campaigns of all the major and minor candidates and began to pose these questions to other communities only to find that there are a number of registered voters (i.e. young black and latino males particularly) who have similar concerns about exercising the franchise in this election.
Where is the discussion on racial profiling which is impacting on both the lives and the perception of Muslims, African Americans and immigrants? Where is the discussion on criminal justice issues such as illegal wire taps, disproportional enforcement of laws and prison detention and sentencing which is now impacting on the Muslim, African American and latin communities? Where is the discussion on the defining of Islamic terms and philosophy by this culture that marginalizes the essence of Islam and makes “Muslim” a person to shun or fear? Where is the discussion of peace? Who supports Us?

Having listened to these arguments and questions, and understanding that Obama lost New Jersey to Clinton by an amount of votes less than the total registered Muslim voters in New Jersey; having listened to these questions and understanding that the candidates have pandered to something artificially designated as “middle class values” or “blue collar voters”; It is clear that NO ONE is willing to listen to the voice of the Muslims and maybe that sentiment exist for young black and latin Americans as well. They unfortunately will never be heard (as with the young brothers in Florida who protested the Obama rally in St.
Petersberg this summer) because there is an overwhelming tidal wave of “minority” support for the first black nominee, But as Obama has said, “he is not Muslim” so again, “Who speaks for the Muslims?

We, the members of The Warriors Club of Elizabeth, New Jersey, a group Muslims who engage in community and social service, have decided to bring this matter to a head in the hope that we can air our grievances and come to an understanding that our voice will and must be heard. Our survival as a community and our perception of ourselves is an important aspect of this election that must be addressed and if no one will speak for or to us we are determined to be heard.

YOU are invited to bring your best arguments for or against participation in this election to our open forum which will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Darul Islam, 602 Salem Avenue, Elizabeth, New Jersey from 9:00 am to 8 pm, The topics debated will include but will not be limited to “Muslim American or American Muslim, is there a difference?” “Claiming and defining our Image as Muslims.” “To Vote or Not to Vote, that is the question.” “Is Silence a strategy or a statement on our impotence?”

Additionally, our program will feature short lectures on voting and its history, the historic playing of the speech by El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, “The Ballot or the Bullet” and all discussions or debates will be moderated in Warriors Club style giving everyone a right and an obligation to participate.

Invited guess include the campaigns of Barack Obama, John McCain, Ralph Nader, and Cynthia McKinney; organization such as MANA, CAIR, ICNA, a host of Muslim dignitaries and celebrities.

I will serve as your moderator but will be joined by noted activists, attorneys, judges, imams and community organizers, including Steven J. Brister, Esq., Rassen Ibn Abdellah, Esq., Honorable Bahir Kamil, JMC, Najla R. Muhammad of HALLA, Inc., Imam Ali Jaaber and many others.

This election is too important to not debate the issues. This debate is too important for you to stay home. Our unity on these questions could decide the next president of the United States. SHOULD WE VOTE OR NOT VOTE? Come join us and lend your voice to the answering of the most compelling questions of our time, remembering that in the Warriors Club, “only the strongest arguments survive.”

    Respectfully,

    MUHAMMAD IBN BASHIR, ESQ.
    Warriors Club Member.
